Hatch Farm
£17 million 98-unit housing scheme on a green field site adjacent to the M27 motorway at Hatch Farm, West End
Six fully certified Passivhaus dwellings for Fareham Borough Council pushing the ‘Zero Carbon’ agenda forward for new development within the local area.
We worked with the energy assessor to develop a simple yet elegant solution for the site which maximised potential whilst respecting the surrounding context. The scheme was orientated to make optimum use of passive solar gains whilst minimising summer overheating.
A brick and block method of construction was selected to demonstrate that Passivhaus could be achieved with traditional methods; key junctions were modelled, and thermal bridge calculation undertaken to ensure compliance. A small gas boiler provides hot water and ventilation is managed by a MVHR system, otherwise the scheme does not rely on any renewable technologies.
People are at the centre of everything we do, we foster and nurture a creative and innovative environment in which all excel.
The scheme completed in 2016 and was opened buy the Leader of the Council who hailed the success of the project and promoted its principles as a beacon for future development.
