Southdown View
The prestigious redevelopment of a prominent Portsmouth location with historic status to create a 56 dwelling residential building sympathetic to its residents and the surrounding environment.
Re-provision of an iconic 60-unit sheltered housing scheme in the heart of Southampton. Completed in 2014 with a contract value of £7.4 million.
Considerate consultation took place, not only with the residents, but also with the Planners, Conservation Officers, local historical groups and surrounding neighbours, due to the sensitive nature of the site, with one of the buildings being locally listed.
There was a lot of local opposition to the loss of the remaining buildings in the complex, despite them being no longer fit for purpose or financially viable to convert.
We helped negotiate the retention of the most prominent block on the site, whilst demolishing and replacing the surrounding outdated building stock with high quality modern, but complementary new housing that offered its residents much improved living standards and facilities.
We worked with the client to realise a scheme that was acceptable to the local authority which included retention of the listed building and ensured the development was in keeping with the site’s formal structure, whilst being aesthetically pleasing. The scheme was HCA funded in addition to cross subsidy raised by the use of part of the site for private development.
This scheme also incorporated complex phasing to allow the existing elderly residents to stay in their homes whilst the development was completed.
People are at the centre of everything we do, we foster and nurture a creative and innovative environment in which all excel.
